The most prominent feature of UHMWPE is its ultra-high molecular weight, generally ranging from 3 million to 6 million. This figure is nearly 10 times higher than that of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin, which only has a molecular weight of 300,000 to 500,000. This huge difference in molecular weight is not only a key indicator of its performance but also the fundamental guarantee for its excellent mechanical properties-it endows UHMWPE with sufficient tensile strength, enabling it to achieve wear resistance and impact resistance that low-grade polymer materials cannot match, even in long-term harsh use.

The ultra-high molecular weight also determines the unique processing characteristics of UHMWPE: it does not melt into a flowing liquid when heated, which makes traditional plastic processing technologies such as injection molding, blow molding, and heat setting completely inapplicable. Instead, its processing technology is derived from powder metal processing, among which extrusion molding is the most mature and widely used method. This processing method can effectively retain the integrity of the material's molecular chain, ensuring that the produced products have excellent toughness and structural stability.

As a linear polyethylene with a molecular weight exceeding 3 million, UHMWPE is known as an engineering plastic with the most comprehensive performance in the world.
